| Description: | As health professionals, we must always be aware that we are treating
real people and not just another interesting set of teeth. How can
we always be ready to respond appropriately when emergencies
occur so infrequently? The answer is the simpler, the better!
This new and concise, yet thorough and effective presentation will
provide attendees with a logical and clear roadmap to respond to
ANY emergency. A foundation in Basic Life Support (BLS) will help
integrate the concept of minimizing equipment adjuncts and
limiting the administration of drugs. Knowing how to treat syncope
opens the door to treating EVERY emergency! Local anesthetics
and drug interactions with vasoconstrictors are addressed.

OF SPECIAL INTEREST TO HYGIENISTS:
All three Mel Hawkins courses, Local Anesthesia (#103),
Pharmacology/Anatomy (#110) and Medical Emergencies
(#120) will provide an excellent review for those dental
hygienists considering applying for the Pennsylvania
State Board of Dentistry's proposed hygiene infiltration
anesthesia permit. Education required for the local
anesthesia permit must be completed through a Council
on Dental Accreditation approved dental or dental
hygiene education program.
